Our Commitment to Safer Gambling
Shikaka is dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable online gaming experience. We understand that for most players, gambling is a form of entertainment. However, we also recognise that for a small number of individuals, gambling can cease to be fun and may lead to problems. Our Responsible Gaming policy outlines our commitment to preventing problem gambling and providing support for those who need it.
We adhere strictly to the regulations set forth by our licensing authority and continuously review our practices to ensure the highest standards of player protection. This commitment extends to providing tools and resources designed to help our players maintain control over their gaming habits.
Recognising the Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can affect anyone, regardless of their background or financial situation. It is important to be aware of the potential signs that gambling may be becoming an issue. These signs are not always obvious, and they can manifest in various ways. If you or someone you know exhibits several of these behaviours, it may be time to seek help:
- Spending more money or time gambling than intended.
- Feeling a need to be secretive about gambling activities.
- Chasing losses, attempting to win back money that has been lost.
- Gambling to escape from problems, anxiety, or depression.
- Borrowing money or selling possessions to gamble.
- Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home due to gambling.
- Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut down or stop gambling.
- Repeated unsuccessful attempts to control, cut back, or stop gambling.
- Jeopardising a significant relationship, job, or educational opportunity because of gambling.
Keeping Gambling Fun and Under Control
To ensure gambling remains a form of entertainment, we recommend adopting responsible gaming practices. Here are some guidelines to help you keep your play enjoyable and within your limits:
- Gamble for entertainment, not as a way to make money.
- Set strict limits on the amount of money and time you spend gambling, and stick to them.
- Never gamble with money you cannot afford to lose.
- Avoid gambling when you are feeling stressed, upset, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Balance gambling with other leisure activities.
- Do not chase losses. Accept them as the cost of entertainment.
Setting Deposit, Loss and Wager Limits
Shikaka provides tools to help you manage your gambling activity proactively. You can set personal limits on your account at any time. These limits are designed to help you control the amount of money you deposit, lose, or wager within a specified timeframe. Once a limit is set, it cannot be overridden until the chosen period has passed.
- Deposit Limits: Restrict the total amount of money you can deposit into your Shikaka account over a daily, weekly, or monthly period.
- Loss Limits: Control the maximum amount of money you can lose over a daily, weekly, or monthly period. If you reach your loss limit, you will be prevented from placing further bets until the period resets.
- Wager Limits: Limit the total amount of money you can wager over a daily, weekly, or monthly period, regardless of wins or losses.
Any request to increase or remove a limit will be subject to a cooling-off period before it takes effect, allowing you time to reconsider your decision. Decreasing a limit will take effect immediately.
Time-Outs and Cool-Off Periods
If you feel you need a short break from gambling, Shikaka offers Time-Outs and Cool-Off periods. This feature allows you to temporarily suspend your account for a defined period, typically ranging from 24 hours to six weeks. During a Time-Out, you will not be able to log in, deposit funds, or place bets.
This option is ideal for players who wish to take a short break to reassess their gambling habits without committing to a longer self-exclusion. Your account will automatically reactivate once the chosen period has expired.
Self-Exclusion Options
For players who feel they need a more extended break from gambling, or who are concerned that their gambling has become problematic, Shikaka offers a Self-Exclusion programme. Self-exclusion allows you to voluntarily close your account for a minimum period of six months, or for longer periods such as one year, three years, or five years.
During a self-exclusion period, you will be unable to access your account, deposit funds, or place any bets. We will also take reasonable steps to prevent you from opening new accounts with us. Once a self-exclusion is activated, it cannot be reversed until the chosen period has fully elapsed. After the self-exclusion period ends, you will need to contact our customer support team to request reactivation of your account, which will be subject to a further cooling-off period.
Protecting Minors
Shikaka strictly prohibits individuals under the legal gambling age from participating in any of our gaming activities. Our terms and conditions clearly state that players must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction, whichever is higher, to register an account.
We employ robust age verification processes to ensure that no minors can access our platform. We also encourage parents and guardians to use filtering software to prevent underage access to gambling websites. If you suspect that a minor has accessed our site, please contact our customer support team immediately.
Reality Checks and Session Reminders
To help you stay aware of the time you spend gambling, Shikaka offers Reality Checks. This feature provides periodic pop-up notifications during your gaming session, reminding you how long you have been playing. The notification will also display your session's profit or loss.
You can set the frequency of these reminders to suit your preferences, for example, every 30 minutes or every hour. The Reality Check prompt will give you the option to continue playing, review your account history, or log out. This tool is designed to encourage regular breaks and help you maintain perspective on your gaming activity.
Taking a Self-Assessment
If you are concerned about your gambling habits, taking a self-assessment can be a helpful first step. This involves answering a series of questions designed to help you reflect on your gambling behaviour and identify potential risks. While not a clinical diagnosis, a self-assessment can provide valuable insights.
Consider the following questions honestly:
- Do you spend more money or time gambling than you can afford or intend?
- Do you feel the need to keep your gambling a secret from others?
- Do you gamble to escape from worries or problems?
- Have you ever tried to stop or cut down on gambling, but failed?
- Has gambling caused problems in your relationships, work, or finances?
- Do you feel anxious or irritable when you are not gambling?
- Do you chase losses, believing you must win back money you have lost?
If you answered yes to several of these questions, it may be beneficial to seek further support. Remember, help is available, and taking action is a sign of strength.
